The Cactonid Necrobiote is a Cactonid/Eldritch enemy found in the Treasury.

Stories of immeasurable riches hidden deep in the Valley attract all groups of adventurers, scholars and warriors, only to be devoured by the Cactonids that wait patiently hidden in plain sight. The vile Cactonid Necrobiote is one of the most curious of its kind, skulking about in the depths of that most-ancient Treasury, it uses a desiccated, dagger-wielding corpse of a bygone adventurer, maneuvering it with a runic knowledge of ventriloquism.... That cadaver is eerily similar to that of a dead Occultist, a master of pagan rituals and vessel of eldritch forces. Perhaps, in a damnably wicked sense, it uses the unearthly prowess this corpse remains to possess, the same eldritch power which first brought it into being.

Behavior

The Necrobiote masquerades as an Decrepit Skeleton.

During Prep Round, it will use Tendril Sprouts.

Tendril Sprouts applies Leeching to two heroes and Debuffs Blight resistance.

Wyrd Puppeteering Heals from very low to a moderate amount, like the occultist, and grants a Healing received buff.

Dagger Dive is a moderate damage skill that Debuffs Stress received.

Skeletal Scramble inflicts weak damage, its primary use being to reposition to the back ranks.

Strategy

The Cactonid Necrobiote covers the role of a backline support, Healing and Debuffing.

It also applies Leeching, which supports its Healing while doing moderate Blight damage.

Pulling it to the front to force Skeletal Scramble is a good idea if its causing your team trouble. Otherwise its a lower priority than other Cactonid backliners.

Trivia

  • The Cactonid Necrobiote uses a decrepit skeleton as a ventriloquist's puppet.
  • The skeleton's appearance is identical to a skeleton in the Occultist comic by Red Hook Studios. Its suggested that this skeleton was that of an occultist.
  • Similar to the Occultist's Wyrd Reconstruction ability wherein he heals an ally while holding up a skull, the Cactonid Necrobiote uses Wyrd Puppeteering to heal an ally while holding up the adventurer's skull.
  • Its name is a play on Necro and Symbiote.
