The Cactonid Alraune is a Cactonid/Eldritch Boss encountered in the Treasury. It is always encountered with the Suitor and Courter enemies.

Behaviour

The gimmick of the Alraune fight is that it starts off as essentially a 4v4 with the combined attacks of Alraune and its companions however over the course of the battle this gets reduced to a 2v2 through the use of Matchmaker.

The Alraune will use Flirt with Death on the Prep Round.

Flirt with Death targets two Heroes, does low damage and inflicts Leeching. It has a 5 turn cooldown.

Welcoming Embrace does moderate damage, has a 130% chance to Pull by 2 and a 120% chance to Debuff for -10 DODGE and -5 SPD.

Impose does moderate damage and has a 120% chance to Stun.

Looking for Love marks a row to be attacked by Matchmaker. This skill puts Matchmaker on a 2 turn cooldown. It can be used first below 66% HP then after below 33% HP.

Matchmaker captures the targeted hero and removes them from combat and decreases the Alarune's PROT by 15% each use. First turns Suitor into a Happy Couple then the Courter into a Happy Couple on the second use. The Happy Couple cannot attack.

Looking for Love and Matchmaker cannot miss and will always be prioritised if possible.

Strategy

Like with the Hag, the best method of dealing with a gimmick that prevents you from using your heroes is for you to ignore it entirely and burst the Alraune down with high damage and DoTs, and also just like the the Hag, Alraune's smallest resistance is bleed. This weakness to Bleed is further compounded by the Alraune's low speed, as most bleeds last over 3 turns and the Alraune has 2 actions per turn you can comfortably outspeed the Alraune even while having a Bleed Amulet equipped. Her Debuff might be a problem so remember to bring so cleansing salt and remember to pop Alum Censers before the fight.

Team Selection

Flagellant - Strong bleed and can reliably out speed the Alraune, since most of his damage is in the form of bleed he also doesn't care about the Alraune protection and he can use 'Suffer' to increase his bleed chance and damage output on top of bleed boosting trinkets
Hellion - Very high damage and good bleed, can boost her own damage output and Crit, since she pretty much only cares about using 'Reckless Rage' on the prep round and then using 'If it bleeds' for the rest of the fight she doesn't care which of the first three positions she's in.
Jester - Like the Hellion and Flagellant he's a high Crit chance status character with a good self buff when he starts in the first two ranks.
Musketeer - Again, high Crit, good bleed, and can use buckshot to inflict bleed and make the Alraune take more Crits. As the Alraune is so slow you're guaranteed to have your other heroes benefit from this.

Reasonable Choices

Thrall - Functions mostly as a worse Hellion for this fight, but he isn't bad and is okay.
