The Kvarotz Otekh is a Kvarotz/Stonework/Unholy enemy found in all regions or during a special plot quest.

This stark black, metallic anathema lurches in the deepest shadows, perhaps denoted as the tour de force of the Kvarotz Empire's constructed mechanisms. Its surface is made of an invaluable material known as the Facade of the Formless, allowing it to take any form it so desires, though perhaps not entirely perfectly. A flawless hunter in the dark, it utilizes many sinistrous methods of slaying its prey, but most despicable of all is its method to suffocate any venturing party in that damning, tenebrous dark.

Spawning

When you first start Black Reliquary, the Otekh cannot be encountered outside of enemy reinforcements. From week 10 onwards the Emergency Meeting event can occur where a crew member is murdered and the player must investigate 4 crew members aboard The Flameseeker. This serves as an introduction to the Otekh showing how it disguises as other enemies and only reveals itself if its the last enemy remaining.

If the event is skipped by embarking on another mission, you will have to wait for it to occur again in order to complete the investigation and unlock the random encounter.

Once this is completed it can be encountered disguised as a Levantine Grunt/Troglodyte Lurker/Wildlander Hellion/Cactonid Hemophyll. The only difference between the normal enemies and these are visual, having spikes come out of them and having a type of stonework? which doesn't trigger Stonework effects.

Behavior

Disguised

While disguised the Otekh acts the exact same way as the enemy that it is mimicing, the only difference being that once this enemy is alone it will use The Truth to transform into the Otekh.

Normally

The Otekh fight continues from the last fight, therefore there is no Prep icon.png Prep Round. Instead Epicenter of Darkness will be used as a free action.

Epicenter of Darkness decreases light, does party Stress and spawns from the selection: Kvarotz Apihr (1 weight, rank 2, limit 2) / Kvarotz Mekhrub (1.5 weight, rank 3, limit 2) / Kvarotz Gagahl (1 weight, rank 4, limit 1) 3 times. It can only be used at the start of the fight.

Sinister Impalement has very high DMG, ACC and CRIT. It does a high Poptext bleed.png Bleed and ignores PROT but can only be used in rank 1. It has a 1 turn cooldown.

Devastate does moderate damage, targets both ranks 2 & 3 and Poptext stun.png Stuns. If the Otekh is in rank 1 it will always follow Sinister Impalement.

Faux Fangs does moderate damage, Poptext blight.png Blights, and moves the Otekh Push forward.png Forward. It is its weakest move and its the only move that can be used from rank 4. It is x2 more likely to be used than Devastate.

Strategy

Its best to keep the Otekh out of rank 1; either by pulling the other enemies or pushing/shuffling it. This prevents Sinister Impalement and can reduce how much Devastate is used.
