The Warhawk Matron is a Wildlander/Human enemy and a Boss encountered in the Exposed Interior.

Helm: The Steelpath

For the Wildlanders, the spearhead and the throne are one and the same. The Warhawk accepts nothing less than complete dominance. The blood of giants flows through her veins, imbuing her with unrivaled strength. The hawk is a symbol of the utmost supremacy-Disgrace it.

Behavior

The Warhawk fight starts in this order: Levantine Munitions / Troglodyte Munitions / Cactonid Munitions / Warhawk. The Munitions may not be destroyed but can be moved which will change the order of firing, otherwise it will go from right to left.

She needs to Load Ammo before being able to fire, this will load ammo from the muntitions crate in front of her, move her Push forward.png Forward by 1 and Poptext buff.png Buff her ACC and CRIT for 2rds.

Once ammo is loaded she can only use one of the corresponding attacks of that ammo before reloading again, unless moved into postition 1.

Attacks from the munitions crates come in pairs, with one single and one multi target attack with single target attacks being more common.

Cactonid

Prickly Projectile single target. Does high damage, a strong Poptext blight.png Blight and Poptext debuff.png Debuffs Heal.png Healing received.

Leeching Spew multi target. Does moderate damage and applies Leeching.png Leeching. Only used below 60% HP.

Troglodyte

Ravenous Ballistics single target. Does high damage and Poptext debuff.png Debuffs DMG and DMG received.

Amber Flak multi target. Does moderate damage and applies Amberblight.png Amberblight. Higher chance to be used if less than two heroes have an Actor Dot, in this case Amberblight or Leeching.png Leeching, lower chance to be used if the opposite is true.

Levantine

Fortress Buster single target. Does high damage and ignores PROT.

Salvo of Steel multi target. Does moderate damage and applies a strong Poptext bleed.png Bleed.

Once she reaches rank 1 she will use Talon of the Warhawk.

Talon of the Warhawk party target. Does high damage, has a chance to Stumble.png Shuffle and moves her Pull back.png Back by 3.

Strategy

The primary danger of the fight is high potential damage output especially from Talon of the Warhawk and the Levantine Muntions attacks. Using knockback to keep the warhawk in rank 4 or 3 for the majority of the fight is excellent way to mitigate this risk.

Additionally due to her moving constantly a party with flexible position targeting is a highly recommended, otherwise it can be a struggle to reliably do damage. It may also help if your party has flexible positioning due to the possibility of a shuffle, however its possible to completely prevent a shuffle through movement.

Status effects are mostly ineffective due to very high base resistances and having 3 actions causing debuffs to quickly fall off. The Actor Dots Amberblight.png Amberblight and Expiate or Poptext tagged.png Mark are more effective.

Team Selection

Recommended

  • Occultist - Good movement manipulation in the form of Daemon's Pull, access to Amberblight. Good range, Amberblight synergy, and high crit on Sacrificial Stab, and access to healing from every rank with Wyrd Reconstruction. He Can also apply Mark to the Warhawk for other Heroes.
  • Highwayman - Can target any rank while in position 2 and 3, while also having good movement options, high speed, high accuracy, and high crit. Unfortunately her ranged attacks cannot be Riposted.
  • Bounty Hunter - Good movement manipulation in the form of Come Hither and Uppercut, while also having good range with Finish Him.

Reasonable Choices

  • Crusader - Tanky and with good healing from any rank, but needs to be paired with another hero with good movement in order to take advantage of Holy Lance, Expiate is also, while not bad, also not that good against the Matron.
  • Graverobber - Mark and Amberblight Synergy, boosts her own accuracy, high speed, flexible positioning, and can target every rank. Unfortunately she relies mainly on dodge for her defense and has low health and her Stealth isn't useful against a boss with so many multi target attacks.
  • Arbalest - While she is very rank dependent, if you can keep the Warhawk Matron out of the first rank Arbalest has high damage, mark synergy, decent healing, and knockback.

Discouraged Heroes

  • Leper - While he has high movement resist, having his entire party shuffled will still move him out of position, even his only form of forced movement is Purge which has a base 100% chance Knockback 3 effect on hit. Functionally unless you can get him to be fast enough to consistently outspeed the Matron and bypass her 65% Movement Resist. He also has low accuracy.
  • Thrall - Same problems as Leper but to an even greater degree as his movement options are worse and he has even more restrictive targeting combined with the same low accuracy and a Riposte that does nothing in this fight.
  • Hexer - He's very rank dependent, combined his debuffs falling off too fast and 'Malform' can't do much against the Warhawk Matron when her resistances are so high.

Trophy

After completing the Warhawk Matron's quest, she will drop her helmet and her weapon as the Reliquary's Spoils.

Trivia

  • In older versions of the fight it was possible to destory the muntions crates, this would cause her to start using a move mechanically the same as Talon of the Warhawk and summon wildlander Hellions and Bombards.
