The Sand Charmer is a Unholy/Eldritch wandering Boss found in all regions. It is the Black Reliquary's version of the Collector from the base game but has different spawning rules, a 0.4 chance in the Catacombs and Treasury or 0.3 in the Exposed Interior and Caverns if your inventory is at least 85% full. This will never be an ambush and it can only be encountered once per expedition.

It fights primarily with its Charmed summons which use mark to attack your Heroes, which are sandy versions of the Bounty Hunter, Shieldbreaker and Occultist.

Behavior

The Charmer and its summons act much like a player Mark team. The Bounty Hunter and Shieldbreaker rely on the Occultist and Charmer to mark targets.

The main threat is high burst damage and very high chance for your heroes to be critical hit, its likely that you will leave this fight with low health and high stress regardless of victory or defeat.

Charmer

The Sand Charmer will use Charming Melody on the Prep icon.png Prep Round spawning its Charmed summons.

Charming Melody will always summon 1 Charmed Occultist and then a 50/50 for Charmed Bounty Hunter or Charmed Shieldbreaker twice. There is a max of 1 Occultist / 2 SB/BH. It does self damage based on health percentage; above 12% HP it will do 13/19/27 damage, above 9% 8/16/18, above 5% 4/6/9, it does no damage below 5%. This allows teams without pull or reach to kill the Charmer by killing its summons.

Sand Castle forces Poptext guard.png Guard, cures statuses and applies Aegis.png 1 Block to an ally. Its 2x/3x/4x more likely to target the ally with the highest health. It has a 1 turn cooldown.

Deathly Rattle does very low damage, high Tray afflicted.png Stress, applies Poptext tagged.png Mark, and Poptext debuff.png Debuffs DODGE / CRITS received. Its 1x/1.5x/2x more likely to target the highest Stress hero. Has a 1 turn cooldown.

Sand Blasting does low damage, targets party, Stumble.png Shuffles individually and Poptext debuff.png Debuffs DODGE the same as Rattle. Has a 1 turn cooldown.

Both attacks move the Charmer back by 1.

Bounty Hunter

The Bounty Hunter is the main threat of this fight.

Sand Collect does very high damage, has high CRIT and has +50% additional damage against Poptext tagged.png Marked. Its 2x/2.5x/3x more likely to target the Marked Heroes.

Glass Grasp does moderate damage, has high CRIT and Pull back.png Pulls by 2. It only targets the backline and has a higher Pull chance than average. Its 1x/1.5x/2x more likely to target the Hero with the lowest Move resistance

Field of Shards does very low damage, has low CRIT, does moderate Poptext bleed.png Bleed and Poptext debuff.png Debuffs SPD. It has the lowest chance to be used out of all attacks. Its 1x/1.5x/2x more likely to target the Hero with the lowest Bleed resistance.

It has a small chance to target the Hero with the lowest HP. (0.15 weight relative to other targeting)

Shieldbreaker

The Shieldbreaker is mainly for supporting the Bounty Hunter, clearing Poptext guard.png Guard and doing moderate damage.

Scaled Strike does moderate damage, has high CRIT, a minor Poptext blight.png Blight and deals +50% additional damage against Poptext tagged.png Marked. Its 2x/2.5x/3x more likely to target Marked Heroes and is 1x/1.5x/2x more likely to target the Hero with the lowest Hero with the lowest Blight resistance.

Shardspear does moderate damage, has high CRIT and ignores PROT. Its less likely to be used if there are any Poptext tagged.png Marked Heroes.

Fangs of the Dunes does low damage and has low CRIT but targets the entire party. It clears Poptext guard.png Guard / Tray stealth.png Stealth and has a chance to Guard break.png Guardbreak for 1 turn. It can only be used if a Hero is being Guarded or all are in Stealth and is more likely to be used. It has a 1 turn cooldown.

It has a small chance to target the Hero with the lowest HP. (0.15 weight relative to other targeting)

Occultist

The Occultist supports the team; Heal.png Healing, applying Tray stealth.png Stealth and Poptext tagged.png Mark.

Dune Reconstruction is a solely Heal.png Healing skill. Unlike your own Occultist it doesn't have a minimum of 0 or have a chance for a negative status. It may only be used if it or an ally is below 70% HP and will always be used on the most damaged ally.

Desert's Embrace grants additional CRIT and Tray stealth.png Stealth to one ally. It has a 2 turn cooldown. It has a 0%/42.8%/60% chance to be used on the Sand Charmer directly instead of a random target.

Sands Take You does very low damage, has low CRIT, does low Tray afflicted.png Stress, applies Poptext tagged.png Mark and does a large Poptext debuff.png Debuff to DODGE. It will not be used if 2 or more Heroes are Marked or used on Marked Heroes. Its 2x/2.5x/3x more likely to target the Hero with the lowest Debuff/Mark resistance.

Strategy

If hitting rank 4 with good damage is possible with your party a good strategy is killing the minions until there are 2 Shieldbreakers and then focusing the Sand Charmer, this is due to the Shieldbreaker being less dangerous than the Bounty Hunter.

If hitting rank 4 is not possible with your party the best strategy is to kill the minions, focusing the Bounty Hunter and Occultist. This whittles down the charmer with self damage, minimises damage from Sand Collect and minimises healing. The Sand Charmer should be attacked where possible to speed up the process. This strategy is likely to take a long time and Stress can quickly mount against your party in this fight, retreat is better than losing a Hero.

The Charmer summons have relatively low stun resistance, using stuns will make the fight easier. Despite the Charmer having a high resistance to it, stunning it is still viable as it allows for a very hefty output of damage if successful.
